Tulip Time Partners With Fall Fest for Tulip Planting, Artisan Market, Michigan IO Concert

HOLLAND, Mich. – July 31, 2024, Tulip Time joins the fun of Fall Fest! Fall Fest will be hosted by Downtown Holland on Friday, October 4, and Saturday, October 5, 2024. Downtown Holland has invited Tulip Time to be a part of the Fall Fest fun with three activities: community tulip planting, the Fall Artisan Market, and a special concert by the local band, Michigan IO

“We’re thrilled to be able to partner with Downtown Holland to bring these family-friendly events to the people of Holland and the West Michigan community,” said Gwen Auwerda, Executive Director of Tulip Time. “It’s a great way for Tulip Time to celebrate tulips and the local community in preparation for spring 2025. We can’t wait to see all the families enjoying all that Fall Fest has to offer!”

Community Tulip Planting

Every year, the City of Holland Parks and Recreation department plants hundreds of thousands of tulips throughout the city – but it takes a village to get the work done. Every year, locals and guests alike come out and plant over 75,000 of the bulbs that will pop up in the spring, welcoming the world to Holland to take in the awe and beauty of Holland’s world-famous tulips.

This year, Tulip Time has invited J. Schwanke from Life in Bloom and Maranda from WoodTV8 to be a part of the tulip planting on Friday, October 4.

“This is a great way for individuals, companies, and families to take pride in their community by being a part of the biggest celebration the city knows,” according to Brittany Genova, the volunteer coordinator for the event. “Volunteers can even plant bulbs in the fall and come back and look at the flowers they’ve planted in the spring. It’s a great feeling to see your tulips be a part of something so big. It really is a wonderful feeling.”

This year’s tulip planting will take place at Window on the Waterfront, with four volunteer opportunities:

The city will supply the tulip bulbs, garden tools, and plenty of instruction. Volunteers are asked to dress for the weather and bring gardening gloves. Participants can sign up to volunteer at www.TulipTime.com

For the first time, Tulip Time will be hosting a concert as part of Downtown Holland’s Fall Fest. Tulip Time welcomes Michigan IO to the Knickerbocker Theatre on Saturday, October 5, at 7 pm.

Michigan IO is a local Michigan band dedicated to reviving, recording, and performing folk songs that flourished in Michigan and the surrounding Great Lakes region in the late 19th century. With a combination of music and storytelling, this musical folk group provides an enjoyable evening of easy-to-listen to melodies and harmonies as they blend the historic sound of these folk songs sung by lumberjacks with a modern sound that is sure to please all audiences.

Michigan IO has recently presented its story and musical stylings at the TEDxMacatawa conference in Holland. A recording of that performance can be found on Tulip Time’s website. Guests can also purchase tickets on Tulip Time’s website.
